"Managers everywhere these days worry about innovating, motivating workers and global competition. So it's no surprise that writers and consultants who tackle these subjects place near the top of The Wall Street Journal's ranking of influential business thinkers."
The Wall Street Journal has compiled list of the most influential management thinkers.
It can be read in the Wall Street Journal Online of May 5th which provides short profiles of three of the top five: Gary Hamel, Howard Gardner and Thomas Friedman.
The report was compiled by Thomas H. Davenport, a management professor at Babson College, and H. James Wilson, a senior researcher at Babson's executive research centers. The duo compiled a similar ranking for their 2003 book, "What's the Big Idea?" co-written with Laurence Prusak.

I found a similar list, published by the International Institute of Management (IIM). The list comprises the world’s 15 most respected management thinkers. Included are, for example, the groundbreaking works of Michael E. Porter and Robert Kaplan. For more details see http://www.iim-edu.org/managementalist/worldsmostrespectedmanagementthinkers.htm No “elite” list is all–inclusive and there are more successful management thinkers. So if you know somebody, you can nominate the person by following this link http://www.iim-edu.org/polls/thinkersauthorseducators.htm
