Capital IQ provides useful data to help with an event study.
Do a simple company name search and pick Annotated Stock Chart from the list of options on the right hand menu. You can alter the date range and pick which events you want to see displayed on the graph.
If you then click on the Excel icon it downloads the graph and also the underlying price data and volume for the period covered, plus a corporate timeline with a list of the key developments and their dates.
Using CIQ you can also search for key events/transations - for example to find the dates of announced mergers in the banking industry in Europe in the last year. Use the Screening tab and pick key developments option.
If you want to learn more come to a training session. They are advertised in Portal and on the Help and Advice section of the Library section in Portal.
Please note - Capital IQ requires prior registration.
Find Capital IQ in the A-Z list of databases and you will see the application link.
Also it can only be used on campus - but it's worth it!
